Our Organisation
Message from
CEO
It
is difficult to believe that the IMRS is already
into its third year of operation. Since its
conception way back in 2002 and it’s actual
commencement of operations in 2004, much has
happened. Not least, as you can see, we now have
our website up and running. So welcome, and I
hope you find the information presented useful.
The foundation of
the IMRS is merely an indicator of the new
realities being faced and embraced by the Irish
missionary organisations. The world today is
still stricken by hunger, by disease, by
inequality and by war and injustice. In this
milieu the work of the Irish missionary
organisations continues tirelessly, executed by
dedicated missionaries and co-workers of many
nationalities, and inspired by the renowned
commitment and conviction of the thousands of
Irish women and men who lived and worked to
fight injustice, to eliminate poverty and to
empower and enable people to be agents of their
own destinies.
This ongoing
evolution of the Irish missionary organisations
from being predominately Irish-centred to being
international organisations, while bringing many
new challenges, also brings a multitude of
opportunities for the organisations to continue
their mission with renewed zeal. To embrace the
challenges in the pursuit of the overall good is
therefore well worthwhile and the IMRS hopes
that it can respond to the challenges with equal
gusto.
The IMRS is
extremely grateful to Irish Aid for its support of the
missionaries’ work through our offices and we
will continue to embrace and deepen the
relationship with them going forward. In fact,
the IMRS and Irish Aid are now entering into a
partnership relationship that will see the IMRS
receiving multi-annual block funding from Irish
Aid.
In anticipation of this partnership and new
partnerships to be developed with other donors,
the IMRS has just recently launched its first
Strategic Plan (accessible on this website) in
which we set out our vision for the period
2006-08.
The IMRS is
committed to supporting the work of the Irish
missionary organisations to achieve their
respective missions in their fight to make the
world a better place and, in particular, to see
an end to the inexcusable persistence of
appalling levels of poverty and deprivation in
the world. We also look forward to ensuring that
the crucial role played by the missionaries in
the fight against injustice, hunger and disease
receives the recognition is deserves in Ireland
and beyond and we live in hope that their
continuous efforts will inspire those who hold
the key to bringing about a better world for
all.
