Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Irish Missionary
Resource Service.
The world today is still stricken by hunger, by
disease, by inequality and by war and injustice.
Faced with these challenges, Irish missionary
organisations continue to be actively engaged in
the delivery of a wide range of development
programmes and projects including:
- Health Care – Primary and Curative
- HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and mitigation
of impact
- Formal and informal education
- Capacity-building of local people and
communities
- Care of the Earth and its resources
- Agriculture and Food Security
- Humanitarian Relief Work
- Human Rights, Justice and Peace Programmes
- Conflict Resolution
Today the Irish missionary organisations
themselves are evolving from being predominantly
Irish-centred to being international
organisations with many expanding their overall
membership and geographic range. This brings
many new challenges. It also brings a multitude
of opportunities for the organisations to
continue their mission with renewed
determination and commitment. With a growing
population of missionaries from the South, these
organisations are now enriched with a depth of
local knowledge not accessible to expatriate
missionaries and development workers regardless
of their experience.
Embracing this new era in missionary endeavour,
the Irish Missionary Resource Service is fully
committed to working to strengthen the ability
and capacity of its members to win the key
battles that will allow development take root.
It will do this by accessing and distributing
funds to support the best work of its members,
by supporting the building of capacity amongst
its members and by representing the concerns of
its members in development debates.
The IMRS and its membership very much
appreciate the support received from the
Irish Government through Irish Aid
and the many other partners – NGOs,
corporations, foundations, and the general
public - who support the work of the missionaries
and we will continue to embrace and deepen these
relationships going forward in our common
commitment to the creation of a more just world
order.
